Description

River sand is a fine aggregate widely and frequently used in construction. Due to its composition, sand has different characteristics. When it consists of crushed rock particles, especially siliceous rocks, it is frequently used in the production of mortar and concrete.

When the sand is coarse, it is used with gravel to make concrete for floors. Fine sand is most commonly used for general construction work or masonry and bricklaying.

The main component of sand is silica or silicon dioxide (SiO2), and its origins are highly varied; it can be extracted from rivers or lakes. Occasionally, it is found in volcanic deposits, or it can come from mechanically crushed rock, when humans simulate the forces that cause the chemical and mechanical disintegration of rocks under weathering and abrasion.
